McDonald’s
________
McDonald’s needed to get back in touch with one of its main target groups: teenagers.
Working in a field much loved by young people, namely music, together with the creative team of DDB – where at the time I was Client Creative Director, I gave life to the project «The Icon Club»: an app that physically allows young people to enter stores McDonald’s.
Here’s how: by downloading the app, users can create music tracks by mixing sounds naturally inspired by the McDonald’s world and duly sampled by a professional producer/DJ. the noise of the chips frying, the Big Mac being placed on the table and the receipt being issued can join the voices ordering and directly naming the products (“Big Mac”, “Nuggets”, etc.), creating a unique sound. Thanks to a pre-set pattern of sound loops, each sound fits together perfectly, always remaining in rhythm with the others.
The result? Many personalized tracks, always different, created ad hoc by users, which become part of a mega-compilation. To make the tracks even more unique, however, there are “bonus” sampled sounds that can only be unlocked by framing some prints hanging inside McDonald’s stores with your smartphone.
Side note: I grew up on bread and punk rock, I can’t think of a funny final line to close the description of this project which is too musically far for my tastes, so I’ll leave you some advice instead (for free – no invoice incoming!): remember to listen to the Ramones at least once a week.
